Niihama Cafe

Niihama Cafe

By Japan’s Suppose Design Office.

When Café la Miell’s popularity outgrew its floor plan, owners called upon Suppose Design Office to create a new space that added customer seating without sacrificing the intimacy lost with stacking diners atop one another in a multi-story space. Building on a sight across the street in Niihama, Japan, architects created a split-level seating arrangement that’s split between street-level and below-grade  spaces. Customer parking is blocked off by an opaque concrete wall, which after turning the corner, is broken by glass segments that pour light into the dining spaces inside.
