Developed by the German Dominik Kommerell and Angela Renz University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart, discovered an astonishing concrete façade incorporating a series of LEDs controllable remotely, transforming a lifeless facade in real media. An idea of the most interesting and promising, both in terms of road safety signage applications for uses more artistic or advertising.
Original description
Can a deactivated media facade transform into an architectural surface? Or conversely phrase the question - can an architectural surface temporarily become a media facade? The project offer a possible answer to these questions - the architectural surface is, when activated, a media facade that can display media content without having a continuing need for new media content. This need is usually the result of media technology that exists as an added element onto architectural surfaces, which - when deactivated - unmasks the assembly of components. Through an amalgam of architectural technology and one area can create an integrated media-augmented element that is able to transform into either a space-defining element or a message-delivery vehicle.
The ‘Medien und Raum’ Studio is a master stroke subject taught by Dr. Haeusler at the University of Applied Sciences in Stuttgart (Stuttgart HFT). The Studio is part of a new research focus at the university on media architecture and interactive architecture. ‘Medien und Raum’ focused on the architectural integration of state-of-the-art media technology. The project ‘Concrete Exterior LED’ by Angela Renz and Dominik Kommerell is a prototype Resulting from this studio course. The project was conducted as scientific research project where conditions and materials were tested and documented. The prototype is a result of this research.

Jen Stark illuminates the ordinary into sublime works of high art and at the age of 24, she is already building her reputation on the streets of Europe. Young and nearly broke, she swept her eager eyes across the aisles of the nearest art supply store in Paris only to find that her meager savings from Miami couldn’t compete with the rising value of the euro and high cost of living. So what does she do? She grabs the cheapest materials she could find–think remedial grade school art lessons–sheets of brightly colored construction paper.
This young street artist from Miami became an art phenomenon overnight through the varied use this cheap, accessible medium. Her story is a very inspiring tale of how low meets high art. Check out the interview above by ArtStreet on WLRN South Florida.

Men’s size 9.5 Nike shoe made from junk, really cool!
“I used very little wire and more glue to keep the piece more clean, and less bulky. I also added new details, a hinged tongue and nike logo’s on both the tongue and back of the shoe. On previous models I used a real nike sole to build of off. With this piece I started from scratch and build the sole from circuit boards. ”

It could be mistaken for a conceptual installation by one of the art students at the University. The more you look at the model by Rihards Rozans, the more you feel that it was designed for a purpose. The purpose could be highly scientific or research oriented or even for pure aesthetic purposes. Whatever the case might be, it just proves that Tetris blocks, which are inspired by that 80s game are still popular and have a cult following across the globe.
