Yikebike

The ‘yikebike’ by inventor grant ryan and engineer peter higgins of new zealand, is a mini-farthing bike designed to battle the increasing urban congestion of today. the carbon fiber frame is the foldable and weighs under 10kg. yikebike’s electronic motor allows you to travel at speeds up to 20 kph. the design means that your feet remain static on the footrests and your fingers work the accelerator and a brake.

100 Percent Lamp

100 Percent Lamp

Ross lovegrove has designed the 100% task lamp for danese.
the desk lamp is made from 5mm thick aluminum sheeting which has been cut, bent
and painted white, and includes a printed circuit and touch-sensitive dimmer.
instead of hiding the circuitry of the lamp and its electrical components, lovegrove has exposed them on the outer chassis of the metal structure on the kapton orange that runs down the neck of the lamp.

through the use of an electronic, serigraphed ABS card which is part of the light’s body,
one can control the intensity of the lamp via an embedded sensor. the LED, electronic components and touch dimmers can work only from the kapton circuit, with LED angle calculations dictating the inclination of the light’s head.

100% marries the product, its user and high-technology in a simple form.

Concept designer Tim Grosch has recently developed the Light Wave 3D lighting platform. The Light Wave is a communal lighting object that is made from modules of 50 x 50cm which can be combined in various pixel-type configurations into a bigger composition. Each module is designed in such a way that the curved outlines create a 3D shape that allows endless addition of modules - creating together a fluent movement of convex/concave shapes.

…To deliver creative and provocative ideas in form of attractive objects that could make our life a bit more colorful and less boring. We consider the main problem of today’s society to be patterned thinking which holds people from broadening their horizons and leads to all sorts of oppression–therefore we try to change the situation by creating objects and interiors that are able to inspire people making them see the usual imagery in some new perspectives. We believe that good design apart from everything else should not leave one unconcerned.

Chris Boardmans Bicycle Of The Future

Olympic cyclist Chris Boardman was today unveiling a design that he believes will be an everyday product within 20 years. The 40-year-old said the technology was already available, it just needed the will to put it all together.

The new bike includes an inbuilt computer system incorporating an ‘unbreakable’ locking device that allows only the owner to open it via fingerprint recognition
A mini computer on the handlebars counts the calories the cyclist is burning by monitoring each turn of the pedals.

Spoke-less wheels make the bike more aerodynamic while the tyres will be puncture-proof with self-inflating tyres.
Owners of the bike, which is still being designed, won’t even always have to pedal  -  a battery-assisted motor run by solar panels takes over if they get tired.
Plus the frame is made of carbon fibre, making the bike strong and lightweight.
Boardman, who led a research team for British Cycling in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics, said the bike would not be ‘financially feasible’ for 20 years.
However, the 1992 Olympic gold medalist for the four-kilometre pursuit added: ‘It could be built now if there was a will. All the technologies are already there, it’s just that nobody’s put them all together before.’
Tom Bogdanowicz, campaign manager at London Cycling Campaign, said: ‘Some of the ideas behind this bike are clearly things cyclists want. But it really needs to be affordable.’
